Data and Permissions
This is a plain-language page about what the VitaSync app can access on your device, what we do with it, and what we never touch. It is meant to be easy to read. For the full legal detail, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Permissions the app may ask for
VitaSync only asks for a permission when a feature needs it, and you can say no. Here is the full list for the mobile apps.
| Permission | What we use it for | When |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Scanning a product barcode, and taking a photo of a product label so the app can read the supplement facts. | Only while you are using that feature. |
| Photo library | Letting you pick a label photo you already have, instead of taking a new one. | Only when you choose to pick a photo. |
| Notifications | Sending you dose reminders, and sending caregivers missed-dose alerts. | Ongoing, while reminders or alerts are on. You can turn these off in your device settings. |
You can change any of these later in your phone's settings. If you turn off notifications, reminders and alerts will not be delivered.
What we never ask for
VitaSync does not request any of these:
- Location. We never ask for your location and we do not collect it.
- Contacts. We do not read your contacts.
- Microphone. We do not use your microphone.
- Health app data. We do not connect to Apple Health, Google Fit, or any other health app today.
If we ever add a feature that needs one of these, we will ask you for permission first and update this page.
How label scanning works
Label scanning is optional. If you use it, here is exactly what happens.
- You take or pick a photo of the product's label.
- The photo is sent to our backend. It leaves your device so it can be analyzed.
- An AI vision model reads the label. The model extracts the supplement facts, such as the ingredients and amounts. The company that provides this model, Anthropic, processes the photo for us as a service provider.
- You confirm the details. The extracted facts are shown to you so you can check and correct them before they are saved to your plan.
- The photo is used for that extraction. It is used to read the label. It is not used for advertising and it is not sold.
If you would rather not send a photo, you can add a product by scanning its barcode, which sends only the barcode number to the OpenFoodFacts product database, or you can type the details in yourself.
What your caregiver can see, and what your parent sees
VitaSync is built so families can help each other. This is what is visible.
- If someone cares for you: a caregiver who manages your profile can see your plans, schedules, the doses you log, your adherence over time, and your alerts. They use this to help you stay on track.
- If you care for a parent or someone else: you can see their plans, schedules, doses, adherence, and alerts in the same way, through the Watching dashboard and care profiles.
- Share links are read-only. A share link opens a view of a plan that the person with the link can read but cannot change, which is handy for a doctor or a family member. Only send a share link to people you trust, and you can stop sharing whenever you want.
If you enter information about another person, please make sure you have their permission, and let them know their information is in VitaSync. If you are in someone else's profile and want out, email us at support@vitasync.app.
Analytics and crash reports
We keep this simple.
- No analytics today. The app does not include a third-party analytics SDK. We do not track your behavior for marketing.
- Crash reports. The only crash information we might receive is the operating-system-level crash reporting that Apple and Google offer to developers. It is something you opt into in your own device settings, it is not a third-party tool we added, and it reaches us in aggregate. You can turn it off in your device settings.
- A promise. If we ever add analytics or a crash-reporting tool, we will update this page and our Privacy Policy before we turn it on.
No ads, no selling your data
We do not run ads in VitaSync, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone. We also do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The app is paid for by the Pro subscription, not by ads.
How to delete your data
You are in control of your data.
- Delete your whole account: open VitaSync, go to Settings, choose Delete Account, and confirm. This works on both web and mobile and removes your profiles, plans, schedules, dose history, and shares.
- Delete just some data: you can remove individual profiles, plans, or logs inside the app without closing your account.
- By email: write to support@vitasync.app from the email on your account and we will handle it.
For the full steps and what happens to backups, see our dedicated Delete your account page.
